The sea has been part of me since I was a child, and though I’ve lived most of my life far from the nearest large body of water, I seek every opportunity I can get to once again draw close to this bed of all life. I treasure my two voyages across the Atlantic on a steamship (I was too young to be photographing the experience), my time on the Pacific Coast, sailing the waters of Alaska’s Inside Passage, my circumnavigation of Iceland on a National Geographic ship, my many times watching the waves crash on the shores in various of the Hawaiian Islands, among other memories of the ocean.
